Welcome to Sampsons Farm , where we love to look after you!

If you yearn for true English country hospitality, in an old country house then you might just fall in love with Sampsons. This is a happy place…. Our tudor thatched farm house in the countryside is older than Shakespeare. Warm, snugly and welcoming, with centuries old black oak beams and panelling; crackling log fires, and rare breed hens under the apple trees, we are probably the opposite of a Boutique Hotel. We can’t offer lacquered surfaces, designer bathrooms, and exotic staff, but we do have a relaxed, informal charm that’s a reminder of a time when the pace of life was less driven.

Fans of the Archers Radio 4 series will love it here, too. Sampsons is home to Sarah Bell, the illustrator of the new Archers Cookbook, which has just won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award in the category for the Best Cookbook Design in the UK, 2009. All the stunning original paintings for the book are on display in the hotel. Sarah also runs (very therapeutic!) day and residential artbreaks, so if you'd like to indulge your creative side, or treat someone, this is the place to be.

Sarah’s vibrant, contemporary watercolours hang in all the public and private rooms here. Click here for details of Watercolour courses, and for the gallery of Sarah’s paintings.

Our restaurant is a great draw for foodies from far and near. Devon is so rich in all that is good from the land and the sea. Please note, our restaurant is shut on Sunday, although we can still offer morning coffees and Cream Teas.

After dinner, perhaps enjoy coffee and cognac by the fire: your comfortable bed is but a few steps away. After a peaceful country sleep, be woken by birdsong, and then…yes! It’s time for that big treat of a Sampsons Devon Breakfast.

Need to work? We have free wi-fi access in all rooms and even in the orchard should you wish to sit and work under an apple tree! For corporate groups we have a beautiful designated and discreet business meeting room, and we guarantee any business will be helped along by our wonderful food and service…

We welcome dog-walkers and their four-legged friends, all we ask is that they are kept on their leads. We cannot have dogs in the indoor public areas, but we can accommodate well behaved dogs in certain bedrooms.

The perfect antidote to increasingly anonymous hotels, our family run hotel has the warmth of a small B&B or Guest House and is the friendliest, prettiest place you could imagine. Come and see us soon!
